Nested among scenic evergreen pines in an exclusive clearing, the Powerhouse is surely one of the most peaceful addresses in the Hakuba valley. This majestic six-bedroom modern chalet has been designed according to the highest standards of contemporary Japanese luxury, pairing traditional aesthetics with sophisticated, modern textures and lines. The first thing that you’ll notice upon entering the chalet is the comforting warmth of the sustainable, geothermal underfloor heating. Here on the ground floor, you’ll find a large, open-plan lounge and dining room, games room, library, onsen-hot tub and media room, as well as the master bedroom. The ground floor is also the site of your professional kitchen and bar, which you can either man yourself or hire a private chef to take care of for you. Head upstairs and you’ll discover the rest of the six bedrooms, two of which feature one queen-sized bed, and three of which are twin rooms, each with two double beds.

Bedrooms: Beautifully rendered in dark natural wood and modern neutral tones, each of the six bedrooms at the Powerhouse are designed in a timeless Japanese style with touches of snowy winter stylings. The master bedroom, located on the ground floor is calm and spacious, with a walk-in closet and an ensuite bathroom, fitted with modern, Japanese facilities. All of the other bedrooms are located on the upper floor, and are arranged as two more queen rooms and three twin rooms with two double beds. Just like the master suite, both of the upstairs double rooms are ensuite with a full, modern bathroom.

Outdoors: The Powerhouse is set among private lawns, lined with towering, evergreen pines. Step out from the living room through floor-to-ceiling glass doors to greet the morning on your private covered deck. Take a seat at one of the al fresco dining tables to enjoy a steaming cup of morning tea as the children stream out onto the snowy lawn to begin the day with a snowball fight.

Indoors: If there’s one thing that could tempt you away from the stunning mountain scenery of Hakuba, it’s the stunning interiors at the Powerhouse. Diligently designed in a modern Japanese style, with carefully chosen wood, faux fur and leather textures, the living areas have an air of timeless sophistication. The main living area is an open-plan lounge and dining room, where you can hang out with your fellow travellers after a day tearing up the slopes. If you’d like to spend more time socialising with your friends and family, head to the games room to enjoy a game of pool as you sip a cocktail prepared at the Powerhouse’s fully-equipped bar. Alternatively if you’d prefer a moment of quiet privacy, take yourself off to the chalet’s library or the private, upstairs onsen. If you’d rather stay in than enjoy a night out on the town, either head to the fully-equipped chef’s kitchen to prepare a family meal, or continue to relax as a private chef whips up a delicious culinary feast. Finally, as the day winds down, where better to end the evening than in the home cinema, where you can enjoy a movie on the full-wall TV.
